THE HISTORY OF HOMEOPATHY

Samuel Hahnemann, founding father of homeopathy, born in the 18th century, was a German doctor who became increasingly concerned about the effects that the medicines, used at that time, were having on his patients. He considered that the treatments were often too violent for the conditions that they were supposed to help. He felt that there had to be a gentler method of treatment.

Like so many discoveries, it happened by accident. He was carrying a piece of Cinchona bark in his bag and, as a result, it was continually being shaken about (part of the potentising process in homeopathy which is what makes these remedies different from herbal remedies). He decided to chew a piece of the bark and it brought on a lot of the symptoms associated with malaria. This subsided within 24 hours. This remedy is widely used to treat malaria and it is now known as quinine.

The photographs on the Home page and below are just a very few out of thousands of remedies that are used in homeopathy.

About Homeopathy. Pulsatillathumbnail

Pulsatilla can be used for different types of catarrh conditions; children who are very clingy; certain types of hay fever and many other conditions.

About Homeopathy. Silicea

Silicea helps to expel foreign bodies, such as grass seeds from animals; helps to lower anxiety in people when in public, but should always be prescribed by a homeopath when treating this symptom.

About Homeopathy. Bellisthumbnail

Bellis Perennis is useful for certain types of swelling after injuries.

About Homeopathy. Sulphur

Sulphur Hahnemann considered this to be the king of remedies. It has a great affinity for the skin but should only be used when prescribed by a homeopath as it can cause aggravations before the symptoms start to improve.

Digitalis supports the heart for certain conditions.

These are just brief snapshots of the remedies since they have very wide applications for a whole range of symptoms.

However, it is not a matter of thinking that 'one size fits all' because six patients with hay fever may all have different remedies because they are all individuals. Homeopathy is about prescribing the remedy that fits a particular person best because one person may be sporty, another may prefer being indoors, one may like spicy food another bland food, one sleeps soundly at night another has very disturbed sleep. All these factors are taken into account to find the remedy that most closely fits a particular individual as homeopathy is about treating the whole person.

Homeopathy may be an effective support for people experienceing symptoms of the following conditions:

ACUTE CONDITIONS

  • Influenza
  • Bumps, bruises and trauma
  • Bites and stings
  • Fevers
  • Teething problems
  • Pre and post operative/dental work
  • Minor sports’ injuries

Acute conditions may respond very quickly to any given remedy.

    CHRONIC CONDITIONS
  • Eczema
  • Asthma, hay fever
  • Depression
  • Autism (Homeopathy can help and support this condition)
  • ADD
  • ADHD
  • Special Educational Needs
  • Conception
  • Pregnancy
  • Labour and post labour
  • Hypo/hyperthyroidism
  • PMT
  • Gout

For chronic conditions it should be borne in mind that homeopathy is not a ‘quick fix’. It is not like taking a course of antibiotics, because it works with the body and not against it. As a result it will work as quickly or slowly as the individual’s body needs to.

There are many other conditions which homeopathy can help with, but they are too many to list here so you may like to contact me, by email or telephone, to find out more about the signs and symptoms that homeopathy can help.
